(Like, I always hated that movies in Front Row weren't presented with an A-Z subhierarchy, forcing me to scroll through hundreds of titles to find the W-X-Y-Z titles.) The ability to tie into Netflix and YouTube streams would be a nice addition too but won't be a deal maker/breaker.BLOOMINGTON, Minn. What I want is, in essence, a Front Row-type experience that (a) ties into the iTunes library like Front Row does, (b) offers a simple user interface, and (c) maybe improves a little on how Front Row does things. I know it can be hacked into the OS but I'm not interested in that. (I can confirm that it's the CPU as the files play perfectly on any Core 2 or higher system.) So I'm looking at buying a new Mac mini to replace my current one, but they all run OS X 10.8 and Front Row no longer exists. Problem is, my mini's puny little 1.66GHz Core Duo processor is being pushed beyond its limits when playing back HD video, especially 1080p video sourced from movies that have complex scenes like Avatar or the LotR trilogy. All video (SD and HD) is compressed with MPEG4/AAC using Handbrake before it goes into iTunes. I enjoy this combination as its familiar and simple to operate. I use iTunes as the media manager and Front Row as the user interface. ![]() I've got all of my DVD and BluRay movies and TV shows ripped to it, stored on an external Drobo system. I've got one of the first model Mac minis (Macmini1,1 with 2GB RAM running OS X 10.6.8) connected to my living room television set. This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc.
